BATTLE TO FIND QUEENSLANDS TRIVIA CHALLENGE CHAMPIONS

Place:

Northern Theatre 1, Griffith University, Nathan Campus

Date:

Sunday 10 October 2010

Time:

10:00am to 1:00pm (12:30pm approximately for announcement of winners)

On Sunday 10 October, hundreds of children will battle it out for the coveted

title of 2010 Queensland Trivia Challenge Champions.

Now in its nineteenth year, Trivia Challenge is an annual competition conducted

nationally to raise funds and awareness of epilepsy.

The Queensland state final will involve 200 children from Years 4 through to 7,

who have previously won the first round of 100 questions answered at their

schools.  They will use their general knowledge skills and test their wits

against teams from schools all over Queensland.

Moving with the times, a new interactive quiz using electronic handsets will be

used this year. This will ensure a fast, exciting and immensely enjoyable

experience for all involved, giving students immediate feedback on the accuracy

of their answers.  Questions will cover topics such as English Literature;

History; Geography; Science; Mathematics; Arts; Sport; Entertainment; the

Environment and Epilepsy.

Helen Whitehead, Executive Officer of Epilepsy Queensland, said Apart from being

a valuable fundraiser, Trivia Challenge has been an invaluable resource for

Epilepsy Queensland in teaching thousands of children in a fun and educational

way about epilepsy.  We are delighted with the awareness that Trivia Challenge

generates.

Increasing awareness about epilepsy is of great significance for the 86,000

Queenslanders who have epilepsy.  The greatest barrier they face is the attitude

of other people, Ms Whitehead said.

The 6,000 students that participated this year have helped us move ahead in our

efforts to stamp out stigma! she said.

Year Seven winners of the State Final will compete against winning teams from

other states in an on-line National Grand Final to be held on 17 November at QUT.
