Great VCE results for Catholic schools
Catholic school students have again performed exceptionally well in their VCE, the
Director of Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, Stephen Elder, said
today.
A total of 78 per cent of Catholic schools received a median VCE study score of 30 or
higher which was a tremendous achievement, Mr Elder said.
He said the results indicated the hard work and dedication of the principals, teachers
and students in what had been a demanding year, complicated by bushfires and swine
flu.
It was a particularly bad start for the community generally, including Catholic
schools, with the bushfires in February and then the swine flu outbreak mid-year.
Despite these disruptions, our schools should be proud of their efforts, said Mr Elder.
I want to congratulate all the students on their individual accomplishments
throughout the year, no matter what field of endeavour they have been involved in;
study, sport, art or community activities.
The VCE is the culmination of many years of learning and hard work and I would
like to wish students in all school sectors the best as they prepare for the next phase of
their life. Above all, it is the quality of their character and how they relate to others
that is the most important achievement in the life of these young people and I would
like to wish them well.
Our principals and teachers are also deserving of high praise and thanks for their
achievements in 2009, Mr Elder said.
