Funding boost gives WA students skills for the future

Secondary students across Western Australia will have increased access to world-

class education and training opportunities, as 52 schools receive funding for 12

Trade Training Centres as part of Round Two of the Trade Training Centres in

Schools program.

Parliamentary Secretary for Western Australia, the Hon. Gary Gray AO MP, said the

almost $60 million investment in Western Australian schools would give young

people the skills they need to be part of the workforce of tomorrow.

“This funding will help us avoid skill shortages in traditional trades and emerging

industries, “Mr Gray said. It will ensure WA students have access to high-quality

education and training opportunities that engage and encourage them to complete

their studies.”

Mr Gray, who Chairs the Australian Government’s National Resource Sector

Employment Taskforce, said the investment would help Western Australians

continue to make the most of the State’s lucrative resource sector.

"The Gorgon LNG Project alone will create about 10,000 direct and indirect jobs and

we want our young people to be able to provide a competitive and highly skilled

workforce,” he said.

“The Australian Government is increasing opportunities for young people, in

partnership with the states and territories and the non-government school sectors.”
