New process gives industry more input in vocational
education and training
To improve the quality of hospitality training, and foster links between industry and vocational
education and training providers, Service Skills Australia and the NSW Vocational Education and
Training Accreditation Board (VETAB) have today launched the Hospitality Pink Slip.
Under the Pink Slip Evaluation process, Service Skills Australia engages industry experts to
assess the technical aspects of a provider's application to VETAB to deliver training.
Service Skills Australia CEO, Jeanette Allen said, The pink slip process has enabled direct
industry input when determining the adequacy of a training provider's facilities and equipment,
which VETAB can then use to determine student capacity.
Service Skills Australia is keen to work with all states and territories to adopt this NSW model
and establish clear, transparent systems that directly engage industry when determining the
adequacy of facilities and equipment being used to skill our future workforce, as well as overseas
students Ms Allen said.
The Pink Slip Evaluation process came about following the identification of a need to ensure high
quality outcomes for learners undertaking training in the nationally recognised qualifications in
hospitality.
This evaluation process has been developed by Service Skills Australia based on an initial
concept proposed by VETAB to engage industry in assisting determine a training provider's
capacity to deliver training and assessment which meets the requirements of the SIT07 Tourism
and Hospitality Training Package.
The Hospitality Pink Slip was launched at Peter Doyle @ The Quay.
