Congratulating the new Melbourne National Scholars, University of Melbourne Provost
Professor John Dewar said the University is honoured to have the opportunity to provide
these high-achieving students with a world-class university experience. At Melbourne
these outstanding young scholars will study with some of the best teachers and beside
some of the best and brightest students.
Like all students at Melbourne, they will have access to a broad range of experiences
inside and outside the classroom which are all designed to produce well-rounded
graduates ready for the workplace or further study in our increasingly-global world.
The University is consistently ranked among the world's leading universities and in 2009
was ranked 36 overall by the Times Higher Education (up from 38) and was the only
Australian university to have all surveyed disciplines in the Top 30 in the world. It also
leads the rankings of Australian universities in Life Sciences and Biomedicine (No 13 in
the world) and Engineering and IT (No 29).
The University is ranked No 6 in the world for the employability of its graduates in a survey
of major global and national employers across both the public and private sectors.
