Law Council to launch landmark Indigenous policy statement
The Law Council will launch a landmark policy statement next week which aims to encourage more Indigenous Australians to study and practise law.
The Law Council's Policy Statement on Indigenous Australians and the Legal Profession outlines its commitment to promoting Indigenous peoples' rights and encouraging the study and practice of the law by Indigenous Australians.
It is the first policy statement of its kind for the entire legal profession, and it recognises that all Australian lawyers can play a part in addressing Indigenous disadvantage.
Law Council President Glenn Ferguson will launch the Policy Statement at the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in Darwin. He will be joined by representatives of the Law Society of the Northern Territory and the Northern Territory Bar Association.
