MEDIA RELEASE
15 OCTOBER 2010
REDUCTION OF SPEED LIMIT AT ST HELENA,
PACIFIC HIGHWAY
The RTA is advising motorists of a speed zone reduction on the Pacific Highway near
St Helena about 29km north of Ballina effective 25 October, 2010.
A speed zone review was carried out on the Pacific Highway from Bangalow to St
Helena as part of a planned RTA review of Pacific Highway
speed limits,
an
RTA
spokesperson said.
Following the review the speed limit will be lowered from 100km/h to 80km/h on the
St Helena Hill.
The new 80km/h limit will connect to the existing 60km/h zone at the St Helena
corner and extend southward beyond the Coolamon Scenic Drive intersection at the
top of the hill.
The review was carried out in accordance with the NSW Speed Zoning Guidelines.
The aim of reducing the speed limit on this section of the highway is to improve road
safety. The new speed limit will complement the road layout and improve traffic
conditions.
Electronic message signs will be in place to warn motorists of the speed limit change
prior to new signs being installed at this location.
These message signs will remain in place for at least a week after the new speed
signs have been installed, an RTA spokesperson said.
