Caravan Holidays Tipped to Lead Domestic Tourism
Caravanning holidays are tipped to lead domestic tourism with reports of increased caravan registrations since the abolition of stamp duty on 1 July 2009.
Barry Baillie, CEO of the Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW (CCIA), says that caravan and camping holidays are leading the resurgence for domestic tourism.
"With around 80,000 caravanners travelling on an extended tour at any one time around the country, it is no wonder caravan and camping tourism continues to be the fastest growing domestic tourism sector in Australia."
Figures from the NSW Government reveal that from 1 July, caravan registrations in NSW have jumped 33 per cent, saving NSW travellers almost $1 million in stamp duty tax in just two months.
"The abolition of stamp duty on caravans, camper trailers and 5th wheelers in NSW is great news for our industry and the general touring public, freeing up extra cash for tourers to spend while on holiday," said Mr Baillie.
CCIA caravan dealers have experienced a direct benefit from the abolition of stamp duty in NSW with increased sales after 1 July this year.
David Carrick, Director of Jayco Sydney in St Marys in Sydney's West, has reported an increase of 300% on large caravan orders during July and August in comparison to the same period last year.
"Overall, sales of general touring vehicles in August this year for Jayco Sydney have been the best in the 13 year history of the company," said Mr Carrick.
The touring resurgence is expected to be reflected in attendance figures at the Penrith Caravan, Camping and Holiday Expo at Penrith Panthers from 11-13 September 2009.
"We hope to see some first time campers and even the avid touring enthusiasts at the Penrith Expo this weekend to take advantage of the great value offered by caravan and camping holidays," said Mr Baillie.
"With over 150 caravan, RV, camping and holiday destination exhibitors to browse and great presummer sales at the Penrith Expo, it is an ideal opportunity for Australian families to start thinking about a domestic touring holiday."
The Penrith Expo will be open 9am-5pm daily with FREE admission and free parking.
