Don't Let a Cup of Coffee Stand in Your Way This Long Weekend

Caravanners and motorhomers can enjoy their travels this long weekend, with a report finding that a fuel price rise of 20 cent per litre will only increase the overall cost of a caravan or RV holiday by about $3 dollars a day, according to a study commissioned by the Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW (CCIA).

The report Impact of Fuel Price on the Cost of Caravanning and RV Holidays, conducted by KPMG, found that a jump in the price of fuel only has a marginal impact on the overall trip cost.

CCIA CEO Barry Baillie said this shows petrol prices should not put people off taking a caravan and camping holiday this long weekend, as they continue to offer exceptional value.

"A 20 cents per litre rise in the cost of fuel impacts the overall holiday cost by only 2% - about one cup of coffee per day," Mr Baillie said.

"This should not discourage caravanners and motorhomers from enjoying a touring holiday during this long weekend break. The touring experience is worth far more than a cup of coffee."

"Caravan and camping holidays still offer the best value for money, with a range of caravans, recreational vehicles and accommodation options offering something for every budget."

Mr Baillie said the KPMG report details the cost of fuel for four popular trips based on fuel consumption from 10 to 30 litres per 100 kilometres, and with fuel prices ranging from $1.00 to $2.50 per litre.

"For example, the report shows that for a 14 day short break from Sydney to Forster - a popular touring route for caravanners and motorhomers a fuel price rise from $1.20 to $1.40 per litre would only increase the total holiday cost* by around 2% or approximately $3 per day (based on an average fuel consumption of 18 litres per 100kms).

The report also took into account 4WD vehicles and sedans towing a 24 foot caravan as well as travelling in a motorhome.

"You can calculate an estimated total cost of fuel for your next trip by logging onto our website www.caravan-camping.com.au. Simply enter your car's fuel consumption, the distance you'll be travelling and the fuel price.

"You can also download our free booklet, 'Fuel Prices The Good News', by logging onto our website."

"This shows just how little a fuel price rise will impact on the overall cost of your caravan or RV holiday."
