Frontiers North Adventures wins International Ecotourism Award


WINNIPEG, Nov. 6 /CNW-AsiaNet/ --


     Frontiers North Adventures, the premiere provider of Authentic Arctic Experiences in Canada's north, has been

awarded the 2009 Skal International Ecotourism Award in the Tour Operator and Travel Agent category.


     The award was presented to Frontiers North Adventures on November 2nd at

the Opening Ceremony of the 70th Skal World Congress held in Budapest,

Hungary. Skal International is the largest organization of travel and tourism

professionals in the world, with locations in 90 countries and over 20,000

members.


     As the winner of this year's award, Frontiers North Adventures

demonstrated excellence in contributing to the conservation of nature and

cultural heritage conservation, community involvement and benefits,

educational features, business viability and innovation with their adventures

in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.


     "For years Frontiers North Adventures has worked hard at treading

lightly," said John Gunter, General Manager for Frontiers North Adventures.

"We've developed innovative recycling projects, international and local

partnerships and aiding in the development of local-to-the-north, authentic

tourism programming and are honoured by Skal for acknowledging our efforts

with this award."


     Owners and operators of the Tundra Buggy(R) Adventure, Frontiers North

Adventures currently offers wildlife-viewing programs in Manitoba, Nunavut,

and British Columbia, the most popular adventure being to experience Polar

Bears in Churchill.


     The company has shown it is an international leader in sustainable

tourism through local partnerships with the Manitoba Metis Federation and Way

of the North discussions with First Nations Elder's from the Churchill

community, and through global education and conservation awareness

partnerships with organizations such as Polar Bears International.


     Frontiers North Adventures has been honored in both 2005 and 2006 with

the Travel Manitoba's Sustainable Tourism Award, and with Travel Manitoba's

Ecotourism Award. They also have been recognized by the Tourism Industry

Association of Canada as one of the top three sustainable tourism operators in

Canada. In 2007, Nunavut Tourism presented the company an Award of Excellence

for its outstanding investment in tourism and sustainable development

practices.
