MAJOR MELBOURNE WINTER MASTERPIECE ANNOUNCEMENT
A DAY IN POMPEII TO EXTEND HOURS IN ITS LAST WEEK

Members of the media are invited to attend a major Melbourne Winter Masterpiece announcement on Wednesday 14 October, 10am at the Melbourne Museum.

This highly visual media event will include an announcement of extended hours for the last days of Melbourne Museum's blockbuster exhibition, A Day in Pompeii. Following the success of the NGV's final day, Melbourne Museum has decided to open its doors for an extended period. The hours will be a fitting tribute to the eruption of Mt Vesuvius.

More than 275,000 people have visited A Day in Pompeii since it opened 26 June 2009. The exhibition features more than 250 objects many never shown before in Australia and tells the story of life in the ancient city, from food and dining to shopping, medicine and religion, and includes exquisite objects including marble sculpture, gold jewelry and delicate frescoes.

The Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series is now firmly established as a must see cultural event and is a Victorian Government initiative that brings outstanding exhibitions from around the world exclusively to Melbourne.
