Olympic Gold Medallist Catherine Freeman

to Welcome Queensland’s First Superliner, Pacific Dawn

10am Saturday December 19, 2009

Olympian Catherine Freeman will welcome Queensland’s first ever superliner, P&O Cruises’

Pacific Dawn, to Brisbane on Saturday December 19, with a media conference to be held

onboard the ship at 10am.

Pacific Dawn will be based in Brisbane year-round, offering cruises to the South Pacific, New

Zealand and northern Queensland.

At 70,000 tonnes, Pacific Dawn is almost 50 per cent larger than the ship she replaces, P&O

Cruises’ Pacific Sun.  Her full-time deployment will inject $44 million into the local economy and

give Queenslanders their first ever opportunity to take a cruise holiday from their doorstep every

week of the year.

Officially named by Catherine Freeman in 2007, Pacific Dawn features all the hallmarks of a

superliner, with 184 balcony cabins, five evening dining areas, nine bars and lounges, a

three-

storey atrium and a spectacular Dome entertainment area.

What:  Media conference and preview of Queensland’s first superliner, Pacific Dawn, with

the ship’s Godmother Catherine Freeman and Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry.
