A Sneak Preview of P&O Cruises’ Latest Superliner 

Pacific Jewel with the Governor-General

Media are invited to join the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC

and Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry for a sneak preview of P&O Cruises’ latest superliner –

Pacific Jewel – at 10am Saturday December 12, 2009 as Her Excellency Ms Bryce prepares to

name the ship later that evening.


At 70,310 tonnes, Pacific Jewel will carry 1950 passengers and feature the largest spa at sea on

an Australian ship, an open-air deck with aerial stage for circus and music performances, a three-

storey atrium foyer and almost 200 private balcony cabins, the most in P&O Cruises’ fleet.


The Governor-General will officially name Pacific Jewel in a spectacular ceremony in front of more

than 800 VIP guests onboard the ship at Circular Quay at 8.30pm on December 12. 


The ship naming will be the highlight of a memorable public event, which will feature live

performances by this year’s Australian Idol winner Stan Walker, as well as 2008 Australian Idol

winner Wes Carr. Kicking off at 5pm at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, the charity event will

also feature breathtaking aerial acrobatic performances reflecting the ship’s onboard circus

entertainment and a spectacular fireworks display.


All proceeds from the evening will to go to the Governor-General’s nominated charities, the

Leukaemia Foundation of Australia and Special Olympics Australia.
