Empowering Women for a Better Life

For women across the world, International Women's Day celebrated on 8th March is a day of reflection, celebrating the efforts of the brave women who fought for the right of equality, power, freedom of speech and freedom of choice for all women.

Community First Step (CFS) in partnership with New Leaf Communities and Bonnyrigg Schools as a Community Centre is organizing a full day free event for general public at the Bonnyrigg Youth Centre on 9th March starting at 10 a.m. This is a chance for women to get pampered and receive valuable information that can help them in realizing their potential.

The event is being organised in line with this year's theme of 'Empowering Women to end poverty by 2015'. It not only acknowledges the efforts of the past but also recognizes the courageous women we meet every day. There are countless stories of brave women who have made a mark in the community with their relentless spirit, dedication and hard work.

"Women are often isolated and face additional disadvantage. This event aims to highlight that women have the power to change their circumstances with the support of community resources and information available to them." said Nally Fear, Community Development Coordinator at CFS

"It will help to empower women to make positive changes in their lives by providing a forum whereby they will be able to gain firsthand knowledge of employment, study, and support opportunities that exist in their community" added Ms. Fear

Participants will also benefit from presentations made by women representing different professional services .These accomplished women will discuss their journey of professional and personal growth especially creating a good balance with family life.

The event promises to be a great showcase of artistic talent ranging from hairdressing, professional make up, nail art, folk art painting, jewellery making and massaging.

Guest speakers will make appearances and share their personal achievements and challenges.
