Catholic education expands in new Melbourne communities
Catholic education is expanding in 2010 with the opening of three new school
campuses in the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
The new schools are St Francis de Sales in Lynbrook and St Lawrence Primary
School, Derrimut. A new Year 11 and 12 campus of Simonds Catholic College, West
Melbourne, will also open at the site of the former St Brigids Primary School, Fitzroy
North.
There are 488 Catholic schools in Victoria educating more than 186,000 students.
The Director of Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, Stephen Elder,
said the new campuses would add to the strength and excellence of Catholic education
in the Archdiocese.
We look forward to these schools adding to the excellent results and strong
community of Catholic education. The opening of a new school or campus is always
an exciting time for the local community and I wish them well for the year ahead.
Mr Elder also welcomed back all Catholic school students for the 2010 school year.
A
special welcome was extended to those families who have enrolled a child in a
Catholic school for the first time.
Children attending school for the first time will understandably be nervous. I am sure
that they and their families will be welcomed to a Catholic school community that
will nurture and support them and importantly put them at ease, said Mr Elder.
I would also like to wish all our principals and teachers the best for 2010 and thank
them for their tremendous work in Catholic education. Teachers in Catholic schools
have demonstrated their excellence and commitment. New students and families will
undoubtedly benefit over time from their expertise and dedication.
To assist new parents at Catholic schools to support the education of their children,
two separate booklets are available: Faith in your Childs Future: Parent Handbook
for Victorian Catholic Primary Schools and Embracing the Fullness of Life: Parent
Handbook for Victorian Catholic Secondary Schools.
