Fielding champions lifelong learning
At a meeting held at Parliament House last week, Family First Senator Steve Fielding
and Ron Anderson, the Acting CEO of Adult Learning Australia confirmed the
importance of adult and community education (ACE) as part of the Australian
Education Revolution.
The two agreed that the value of the sector to the economy was often overlooked.
They noted that there are more hours of tuition occurring in ACE that often provide
pathways for second chance learners.
Mr Anderson discussed with the Senator that ACE operates effectively to engage the
disengaged with basic education and support services, provides pathways into tertiary
education and paid work as well as offering accredited vocational training.
He said: 15.6% of all VET study is carried out in the ACE sector.
Senator Fielding concluded: Education doesnt end with your schooling. My after
school education has allowed me to not only better myself but it allowed me to
become more involved in building the capacity of my community.
