GILLETTE CHAMPIONS TIGER WOODS AND MICHAEL

CLARKE

INSPIRE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE FUTURE

Michael Clarke was joined today by Tiger Woods to announce a new grant aimed at helping Aussie

kids.   The Gillette Champions Junior Education Grant will help youngsters to excel in their chosen

academic field with the hope that they will one day become champions of the future.

Meeting for the first time ever, the two Gillette Champions have come together from their different

sporting fields to inspire children from all walks of life to better their best and achieve their dreams.

Both athletes began their sporting careers at a young age and recognise the importance of giving

kids the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The Gillette Champions Junior Education Grant is open to passionate and talented children (boys

and girls) under the age of 18 years to provide support in the area of education and development,

which could be anything from sport to music to maths.  The $5,000 grant will be a new addition to

the Gillette Champions Grants, launched by Michael Clarke earlier in the year, which will see a

total of four $10,000 grants being offered to passionate and talented young men in the fields of

sport and adventure, community, entrepreneurship and innovation and design.

Tiger Woods, who is in Australia for the first time in 10 years to play at the Australian Masters, had

the following to say:

“Education was always a priority when I was very young, so I know the importance of getting a

head start – that’s why I think the Gillette Champions Junior Education Grant is such a great idea.

My Foundation (The Tiger Woods Foundation) has reached more than 10 million young people by

delivering unique experiences and innovative educational opportunities for youth world-wide,”

Woods said.

“This Gillette initiative, the Gillette Champions Junior Education Grant, also recognises the

importance of assisting and inspiring talented individuals.”

Australian Gillette Champion Michael Clarke said, “It is fantastic that Tiger was able to be here

today to help launch the initiative and I am excited to be behind such a worthwhile program that

helps Aussie kids. Who knows, we could be creating the Gillette Champions of the future here!”

Entries for the Gillette Champions Grants and Junior Education Grant will be open until December

31, 2009 and Michael Clarke will be assisting with the judging.  “I will be looking for kids who

demonstrate a real passion and commitment in their field and provide good examples as to how

they will benefit from the grant,” he added.
