PRESS RELEASE INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITY June 16th
INFORMAL-LEARNING GURU JAY CROSS VISITS MELBOURNE AND SYDNEY
Jay Cross
Jay Cross has challenged conventional wisdom about how adults learn since designing the first business degree program offered by the University of Phoenix in the 1970s. Three decades later Mr Cross is a widely published author and sought after public speaker. He remains a unique innovator and practical teacher of informal learning techniques. His client list that includes IBM, the CIA and the World Bank.
Always entertaining and thought provoking, Mr Cross will be available for media interviews in the lead up to his one day workshops in Melbourne (June 17th) and Sydney (June 19th).
WHAT IS INFORMAL LEARNING?
Whatever level of education you reached the chances are that you learnt more about your chosen field outside of the classroom or lecture theatre than you did in it.
Jay Cross believes 80% of organisational learning occurs informally through impromptu and informal connections between people. In many offices, gatherings around the coffee machine remain one of the most effective learning centres
Despite substantial investments in training programs many organisations leave the more natural, simple ways we learn, to chance. It has been Jay Cross life work to take chance out of the equation.
People working together create much more value than the same people working in isolation... but until recently, collaboration was not easy, especially when distance was involved. Those barriers are fading fast. Software and networks that support collaboration are now readily available. Jay Cross
