Applications Open for Leading Australia's Schools Program

Teaching Australia today announced that applications are open for the 2009 national leadership development program for Australian principals Leading Australia's Schools.

"Leading Australia's Schools aims to build the professional knowledge and leadership skills of school principals, to increase their capacity to lead schools effectively in the 21st century," said Fran Hinton, Chief Executive of Teaching Australia.

Currently in its third year, the program involves a personal leadership style analysis and feedback, a residential course, a school based challenge project and an on-going alumni network.

Leading Australia's Schools has been run by Hay Group, a global management consulting firm, and the University of Melbourne in partnership with Teaching Australia since 2006. It is delivered by experienced leadership and education consultants.

The program is supported by four national principal's associations.*

Leonie Trimper, President Australian Primary Principals' Association said "as well as building on professional knowledge and skills, Leading Australia's Schools is a unique program providing principals from all sectors with a national perspective on school leadership."

Evaluation of the program found strong endorsement by participants. "The Leading Australia's Schools program is a highly strategic response to effectively meeting the high order learning needs of Australian principals. Places in the program are limited to two cohorts of 40 principals.
