Telecoms Researcher Graduates from RMIT
MELBOURNE, Sept. 3 /Medianet International-AsiaNet/ --
An outstanding PhD researcher who studied microrelays used in the
telecommunications industry will collect her degree from RMIT University,
Melbourne, Australia, at a special ceremony in Kuala Lumpur this week.
Zuraini Dahari will receive her award at RMITs Kuala Lumpur graduation ceremony
on Wednesday, 3 September, at Hotel Nikko.
RMIT Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Margaret Gardner AO, who is in
Kuala Lumpur for the ceremony, congratulated Dr Dahari and her fellow graduates
on their exceptional achievements.
RMIT excels in applied research that makes a difference to our world, and the
work of outstanding PhD researchers like Dr Dahari will make a lasting
contribution to knowledge, industry and development in the region, Professor
Gardner said.
All our graduates leave RMIT with qualifications that will help them to play
significant roles in their home countries and in the global economy, and we wish
them great success with all their future endeavours.
Dr Daharis research in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering was
concerned with improving the performance of relays used in the
telecommunications industry.
Her work has led to a new design that overcomes many limitations of conventional
cantilever-type suspensions used in microrelays.
Dr Dahari focused on improving the performance of MEMS electromagnetic
microrelay matrices with individually switchable relays.
MEMS is an enabling and disruptive technology competing with many different
technologies, and her design has enhanced the commercial potential of microrelay
matrices in the telecommunication industry.
A total of 147 graduands will receive academic awards for their studies
completed at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia, and at the Universitys partner
institutions in Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur graduation ceremony.
Media note: Media are welcome to interview/photograph Dr Dahari at the RMIT
University Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday, 3 September, at 2pm.
RMIT University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Margaret Gardner AO,
will be in Kuala Lumpur on 2-4 September and is available for interview.
RMIT is a global university with campuses in Vietnam and partnerships in Hong
Kong, China, Malaysia and Singapore.
