TIEE 2009: A Major Stage to Promote Thailand as the Region's Hub of International Education

BANGKOK, Sept. 16 /InfoQuest-AsiaNet/ --

Thailand's Department of Export Promotion (DEP), Ministry of Commerce, continues with its mission to

promote its international education services in line with the government policy to firmly establish the Kingdom

as the region's hub of education. In cooperation with all the organizations concerned, it is staging Thailand

International Education Exhibition 2009 (TIEE 2009) at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center,

Bangkok, from October 9-11.

DEP's Director General Mr. Rachane Potjanasuntorn noted: "The Royal Thai Government aims to

strengthen the country's position as Asia's hub of international education by 2012 and this will be

accomplished by seriously accelerating the implementation of the strategic projects under the "Stronger

Thailand" action plan.

"Our strengths lie in the country's strategic location at the heart of the region, while cost of living is not too

high, the public utility systems are complete, and the social environment is favorable.  Our international

education services have so far been gaining trust and popularity among students and parents as evident in the

continuous growth in the student numbers in the past few years.  According to the 2008 survey, there were

over 30,000 foreign students from over 100 countries studying in Thailand, more than 11,000 of which are

taking some 900 programs in the university level or higher.

"In line with the "Stronger Thailand" policy, our strategy now is to support, promote, and accelerate the

overall quality development of Thai educational institutes to internationally recognized standards as well as

expand our services to cover greater choices as required by these international students, lecturers,

academics, researchers, and their group who arrive in Thailand for studies, researches, trainings, meetings,

seminars, etc.

Annually, the DEP organizes the grand exhibition encompassing the entire spectrum of international

education and truly reflecting Thailand's position as the hub of education not only in the ASEAN but Asia. TIEE

2009, themed "Asia's Hub of International Education", aims to attract no less than 12,000 visitors from nearly

40 countries with over 210 exhibition booths spreading over 5,000 square metres and covering all levels and

courses of education. The event also features earning media, educational software, educational services and

products, plus informative sessions and fun entertainment programs.
