Universities Australia Consortium Chooses Web of Science(SM) by Thomson Reuters for Education
and Research Needs
SYDNEY, May 17 /PRNewswire-Asia-AsiaNet/ --
The Universities Australia consortium has chosen to renew Web of Science(SM) from Thomson Reuters for
its members' education and research needs through 2013. Web of Science, the largest and most
comprehensive database of research citations available, is widely used by researchers, administrators, faculty,
and students. Universities Australia represents Australia's 39 universities.
Universities Australia and Thomson Reuters have worked together to fulfill the consortium's expanding
content needs with Current ContentsConnect(R), a complete table of contents and bibliographic information, in
the 1990s and Web of Science in 2002.
Under the renewal agreement, Thomson Reuters will provide additional content such as Conference
Proceedings Citation Index, a Web of Science database, and Journal Citation Reports(R), an analytical
resource. These products enable users to search the right content and find relevant information within one
integrated, versatile and easy-to-use system.
"Universities Australia and its predecessor body, the Australian Vice-Chancellors Committee, has held a site
licence for eight years with 37 of our 39 members choosing to join the agreement," said Chief Executive of
Universities Australia, Dr Glenn Withers. "This national site licence ensures that Australia's universities can
access world class research information at the best possible prices. This allows Australia to continue to
position itself to contribute an increasing proportion of leading research and innovation in a global market."
"Web of Science is an indispensable, multi-disciplinary databases underpinning research and research
performance analysis in Australian universities. CAUL welcomes their wide availability arising from these
negotiations," said Ms Cathrine Harboe-Ree, President of the Council of Australian University Librarians
(CAUL) and University Librarian of Monash University.
Web of Science provides access to the world's leading citation databases with multidisciplinary coverage of
over 11,000 influential journals and 110,000 conference proceedings spanning the sciences, social sciences,
arts and humanities.
"We are pleased that Web of Science continues to be the critical discovery and research assessment tool
for universities, as seen by this robust endorsement from universities in Australia with their renewal," said
Mark Garlinghouse, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, at Thomson Reuters, "As the leading global provider
of intelligent information, Thomson Reuters is committed to supporting academics and researchers. We look
forward to furthering and strengthening our partnerships in Australia."

references from 1900 to present day spanning both the sciences (Century of Science(TM)) and social
sciences (Century of Social Sciences(TM)). This enables users to track trends, authors and articles over the
entire 20th century and to identify the most important scientific bibliographic and reference data plus seminal
studies that form the basis for today's research. Approximately one-third of Universities Australia members
