Fair Work Infoline: 13 13 94
Media Release

$35,000 back-pay for two Whyalla workers
Two Whyalla workers have been reimbursed more than $35,500 after
investigations by the Fair Work Ombudsman found they were underpaid.
A female health worker has been back-paid over $18,000 and an administration
manager almost $17,500 after the Fair Work Ombudsman intervened on their
behalf.
The health worker contacted the Agency after waiting five months for her full
entitlements after leaving her job.
The womans back-pay comprised accrued annual leave and long service leave
entitlements together with unpaid overtime.
In a separate case, the Fair Work Ombudsman has assisted with the recovery of
money owed to an administration manager for another local company.
The money comprised annual leave entitlements and reimbursement of expenses
after the managers employment was terminated.
Fair Work Ombudsman SA Director Carey Trundle says the Agency has had
discussions with both employers about their legal obligations to staff.
She says the cases serve as a timely reminder to all employers unsure about their
responsibilities to check with the Fair Work Infoline on 13 13 94.
Likewise, any worker in the Iron Triangle area with concerns about their pay and
conditions should also contact us for advice, she said.
A range of information is also available on the website at www.fwo.gov.au and
the Fair Work Ombudsman has an office at Port Augusta.
South Australian inspectors last year recovered more than $2 million for 1015
workers in the State who had been underpaid.
The Fair Work Ombudsman promotes harmonious, productive and co-operative
workplaces. It monitors compliance with and investigates breaches of national
workplace laws.
The maximum penalty for a breach of workplace law is $33,000.
