Jobs Figures Cause for Great Optimism for Australian Workers

Thursday 8th October 2009

Australian Workers should be optimistic for the future and the lead up to the Christmas thanks to a fall in the unemployment rate and an increase in full time jobs by 35,400. As predicted by Matthew Tukaki, the Regional Manager of Drake Australia, the month of August already showed signs of the recovery and he further predicted that September could actually see a return to growth.

"While corporate Australia and business in general should remain cautious, now is also the time to invest in jobs and skills development. The fact is that the Australian economy remains the most resilient in the developed world."

The increase in full time jobs for September, although predicted by Matthew Tukaki was unexpected in its size. "We are still seeing a trend for companies to use contract labour in the short term, with more caution being taken by companies as to when and why they increase their full time labour force", said Matthew Tukaki. "We are seeing several clients developing their strategies for a return to growth and developing workforce plans accordingly, said Matthew Tukaki.

According to Matthew Tukaki, "there is a lot of talent available in the market at all levels, and companies are starting to take advantage of this to get the best people on board who will provide the foundation for growth."
