Manpower - Melbourne Institute Employment Report

Jobs growth expected to remain strong with

continuing growth of 15,000+ jobs for March.

Despite the negative reports showing a decline in job advertising for March, the

Manpower – Melbourne Institute Employment Report shows continuing strong jobs

for March. The report produced by the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic &

Social Research indicates year on year jobs growth for March to be 2.6%, which

equates to 15,900 new jobs on a trend basis.

According to Stephen Hinch, General Manager Marketing & Communications,

Manpower, Australia and New Zealand, “This continuing steady growth is also

reflective of the strong demand that our Manpower Employment Outlook Survey has

shown for the coming months. There is still a continuing need for business to hire

new workers and the increasing participation rate is allowing broader supply to match

the demand, the forecast also shows April growth to be 2.5% year on year, and May

to be 2.4%”.

“While job advertising may well be down in March, it is not a reflection of a softening

market, but rather showing the changes in attraction strategies that are now taking

place with more sophisticated managers and the impact that the prolonged Easter

break delivered in March.” Hinch said.

“There is a growth in real numbers for all states, with Western Australia expected to

have the highest growth rate, the monthly changes in the number employed in

Queensland and South Australia however are expected to experience some

contraction in the coming months.” Hinch noted.
