Fair Work Infoline: 13 13 94

Tiling companies focus of new Qld campaign
Gold Coast and Brisbane-based tiling companies are the latest target of
the Fair Work Ombudsman.
It will investigate up to 20 businesses following intelligence about
potential non-compliance within the industry.
Fair Work Ombudsman Executive Director Michael Campbell says Fair
Work inspectors will be looking to ensure workers are being paid properly.
We have had complaints from both employers and employees that some
workers may not be receiving their full entitlements, he said.
We are told many are from non-English speaking backgrounds and may
not understand their workplace rights, so it is important we ensure
employers are aware of their legal obligations to staff.
Mr Campbell says the prime objective is to alert employers to their lawful
responsibilities.
For example, it is important that employers realise they must keep
accurate time and wage records and issue pay slips, he said.
Mr Campbell urged employers unsure about their record keeping
requirements to access free documentation on the Fair Work Ombudsman
website.
Resources for small business include a number of industry specific web
pages, payslip and record-keeping templates, a self-audit checklist,
template letters and fact sheets on dozens of topics including leave,
industrial action, public holidays, enterprise bargaining, gender pay
equality and family-friendly workplaces.
As well as Online resources at www.fairwork.gov.au the Fair Work
Ombudsman has advisers available to speak with employers and workers
with questions on its Fair Work Infoline on 13 13 94 from 8am-6pm
weekdays.
