Beam Lift Over Glenferrie Road

200-tonne cranes will lift two 56-tonne beams into place over Glenferrie Road in the early hours of this Sunday 20th April as part of the Southern Link Upgrade project.

The beams form part of the Monash CityLink West Gate upgrade project, which once
complete, will provide this section of CityLink with an additional lane in each direction.

The cranes will place the massive 31 metre long pre-cast concrete beams onto the northern section of the Gardiner's Creek Viaduct in a five hour operation in the early hours of Sunday morning. Additional works will also be carried out on tram traction overheads between the hours of 6am and 12pm.

As a safety precaution, Glenferrie Road between between north of Talbot Crescent and south of Gardiner Road will be closed to through traffic in each direction from midnight Saturday until midday Sunday.

Traffic diversions are in place for motorists and local businesses, residents and sporting clubs have been advised of the works. Traffic management will be in place to safely facilitate pedestrian and cyclist movements during this period.

A bus replacement service travelling around the works zone will be available during the closure.

The Monash-CityLink-West Gate upgrade project will improve traffic flow and safety along one of the State's busiest transport corridors. The Southern Link Upgrade project will provide an extra lane in each direction between the Burnley and Domain tunnel portals, to where CityLink joins the Monash freeway just east of Glenferrie Road. The Southern Link Upgrade section of the onash-CityLink-West Gate upgrade project is expected to be completed by
mid-2009.

Note for Pic ed and COS: still pictures and a time lapse of the operation available by lunchtime Sunday.
