Alice Springs Darwin Railway
Temporary Track Closure between Alice Springs & Tennant Creek
As the result of heavy rainfall around Alice Springs and Tennant Creek overnight, flooding has damaged a section of track approximately 230 kilometres North of Alice Springs requiring closure of that section of the track.
A short section of track has suffered scouring of the formation preventing safe train operations; FreightLink has track staff at site and have commenced to position the necessary resources to repair the track.
Significant surface water resides in the area and it will take some two days for the area to dry sufficiently for FreightLink to operate the plant on site to effect the repairs.
The Adelaide bound Ghan service, which was in the area is returning to Darwin pending line reopening.
FreightLink will continue to operate trains between Adelaide and Alice Springs where the freight may be collected for road bridging to other Northern Territory locations.
FreightLink is working to reopen the link to Darwin as soon as possible.
