Barangaroo: A World Class Business Precinct Demands World Class Transport Connections

The selection of Lend Lease as the preferred bidder for the development of the Barangaroo precinct is a welcome step forward and should provide the impetus for the release of the NSW Transport Blueprint says Infrastructure Partnerships Australia the nation's peak transport and infrastructure body.

"The concept for Barangaroo is world class, but if this new precinct is to be properly integrated into the fabric of Sydney it must be serviced by world class transport too," says IPA Executive Director, Brendan Lyon.

"Lend Lease has put forward an excellent plan and business congratulates it and the Barangaroo Development Authority on their vision.

"Integrating Barangaroo into Sydney's CBD is a key challenge to making the precinct work and the design of public transport connections is fundamental.

"Everyone is hoping that the NSW Government will release the long-awaited Transport Blueprint as soon as possible, ending uncertainty about the transport priorities for Barangaroo, greater Sydney and across New South Wales.

"Stage one of Sydney's Metro is critical to Barangaroo and the release of the transport plan will help to end uncertainty about the future of this project.

"Barangaroo is an exciting development for New South Wales because it provides a new economic and cultural hub to drive the state economy and harness valuable foreign investment.

"If we get the supporting infrastructure right, Barangaroo will equip Sydney to better compete for foreign investment into Australia's economy.

"It's in the national interest that Barangaroo is a success, and transport is a key part of achieving the best outcome.

"Sydney's gross state product already equals places like Singapore and Hong Kong, but this new financial hub will provide an important opportunity to drive jobs and global investment across the national economy.
