Catch a Winning Ride to the Caulfield Cup
For racegoers planning to enjoy the excitement of the 2009 BMW Caulfield Cup Day on Saturday 17 October, public transport is the hassle-free way to Caulfield Racecourse. Especially with all the extra trains running. Forget about parking and designated drivers, a train, tram or bus can drop you off.
Train
In addition to regular services on the Frankston, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines, extra trains will run to get racegoers to and from Caulfield Station. Caulfield Station is located directly opposite the racecourse approximately 15 minutes from the city. Trains will run from Flinders Street Station every 20 minutes between 10.15am and 1.55pm (these trains will stop at Richmond, South Yarra and Caulfield stations only). There will be extra trains from Pakenham Station at 10.40am and 11am and from Frankston Station at 10.42am and 11.02am. Getting home will be easy with extra trains from Caulfield to Flinders Street departing every five minutes between approximately 4.30pm and 7.30pm. Extra trains will also run to Pakenham and Frankston.
Tram
Racegoers can catch a Route 3a tram and alight at Stop 56. From the city, Route 3a travels along Swanston Street, St Kilda Road and St Kilda Beach. From East Malvern, Route 3a travels along Waverley Road.
Bus
SmartBus 900 (Stud Park - Caulfield) provides frequent services along Wellington Road stopping at Huntingdale and Oakleigh stations and Chadstone Shopping Centre on the way. Bus routes 623 (Glen Waverley - St Kilda) and 624 (Kew - Oakleigh) will be diverted around the racecourse, but will still stop within walking distance.
Use Metlink's online journey planner at metlinkmelbourne.com.au to find the best route to and from the racecourse.
