Community Wins From Government Decision on
Ferries
Unions NSW applauds todays decision by the NSW Government to keep
Sydney Ferries in public hands and believes that the government has made a
sensible decision.
The community has spoken and the government has listened, Unions NSW
secretary Mark Lennon said, This is the right decision for the people of NSW
its a win for commuters and the community at large
Those that have conducted the community campaign to keep the iconic
Sydney Ferries in public hands should be congratulated Mr Lennon said.
In particular thanks should go to community activist Jack Mundey for his
untiring support for the campaign.
The community campaign included rallies at various Sydney Ferries wharves,
public meetings, petitions and visits to state MPs.
Unions NSW believes todays decision is recognition by the State
Government of the hard reforms undertaken by the workers at Sydney Ferries
to make them one of the best performing public transport operators in
Australia said Mark Lennon.
Thanks to these reforms, Sydney Ferries has made significant gains in
efficiency. Reliability has increased to 99.5 per cent and on time running
continues to rise and is currently at 98.1 per cent.
Id also like to congratulate all the residents, workers and local groups who
have united behind this campaign to save our Sydney Ferries, said Mark
Lennon, Without their hard work campaigns like this cant succeed.
