COONAMIT BRIDGE LOAD RESTRICTION INCREASED TO 42.5
TONNE
The RTA is advising motorists that load restrictions on the Coonamit Bridge will be
lifted from 15 tonne to 42.5 tonne from 2pm today, Friday 8 October.
The bridge is located on the Swan Hill to Moulamein Road, 26 kilometres north of
Swan Hill.
A 42.5 tonne load limit and three metre width restriction will be in place and will be
monitored closely.
The Coonamit Bridge has been closed since early 2007 after bridge inspections
identified structural damage. Extensive restoration work has taken place since that
time.
Work will continue on the bridge between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday. A reduced
speed limit of 20 km/h will apply and temporary traffic controls will be in place.
Motorists can expect delays of up to 20 minutes at times.
The low level bypass bridge remains closed due to flooding.
For vehicles heavier than 42.5 tonnes, the recommended detour is via Kyalite.
Motorists are advised to drive with caution and obey all signs.
Be roadwork aware, slow down and take care, roadwork speed limits are enforceable.
