RTA SUPPORTING FLOOD-AFFECTED COMMUNITIES
The RTA is supporting local communities in the flood-affected Coonamble area as
the clean up effort continues.
An RTA spokesperson said the floods have made life extremely difficult for local
residents and businesses.
The RTA is there to help the community and is on the ground assessing damage to
the state road network, including the Castlereagh and Kamilaroi highways.
There is some damage to culverts and road surfaces which need to be repaired.
However, with the Castlereagh River not peaking as high as predicted, the damage is
not as severe as expected, the spokesperson said.
Emergency repairs to make the roads safe for motorists will be completed as soon as
possible. There may be delays as some work cannot be carried out until the ground
moisture levels have dropped.
The spokesperson said that to help residents and businesses recover as quickly as
possible, NSW Government funding will be allocated to local and regional roads
damaged by the flood waters.
The RTA will work with councils in the area to assess the damage and confirm the
appropriate funding allocation, the spokesperson said.
Were committed to helping the people who live and work in the Coonamble area, by
ensuring roads damaged by floods are restored to allow safe travel so life in regional
areas can get back to normal as quickly as possible.
This is another example of the RTAs commitment to improving and delivering better
roads in every region of NSW, the spokesperson said.
