Free Road Service For Young People Extended

2 December 2009

Young drivers aged up to 20 can now get free NRMA road service for a year, following the expansion of NRMA's Free2go service.

The successful program, which now has 100,000 members in NSW and the ACT, has been expanded to include all young drivers aged up to 20.

NRMA Group CEO Tony Stuart said Free2go made sure all young drivers had access to NRMA's help whenever they needed it.

"Young people are often getting lifts with friends and we wanted to make sure they could call us for help at any time," Mr Stuart said.

"Free2go goes above and beyond the normal NRMA membership because young drivers can call for help regardless of whose car they are driving or even if they are a passenger in a friend's car."

Mr Stuart said as more young drivers joined the NRMA its capacity to influence government policies that affected them got stronger.

"The NSW Government recently adopted changes proposed by the NRMA that made it easier for learner drivers to complete their 120 hours of supervised driving before they could sit for their P plates," Mr Stuart said.

"This was a massive win for young drivers and we want more young people to get free NRMA road service because everyone has a role to play in making our roads safer and licensing laws for young drivers fairer."

Following the first year of free membership, Free2go Members can renew their membership in the second year at half price and full price in the third year.

Free2go Members also receive a raft of special Member benefits and services designed for young drivers, including discounts on concert and movie tickets.
