HOLDEN SCORES ANOTHER 5-STAR RATING WITH CRUZE
A small car built for the global market, the 2009 Holden Cruze, has been awarded a 5-star
safety rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program.
The Cruzes 5-star rating is the second ANCAP 5-star rating for a Holden vehicle in less
than six months the Holden Commodore became the first locally-produced Holden car to
receive the top safety rating late last year.
ANCAP Chair, Lauchlan McIntosh, said the Cruze, which will be launched on the Australian
market later this month, had a broad range of safety features and had performed well in
ANCAPs crash tests.
The Cruze passenger compartment maintained its shape very well during the demanding
frontal offset crash test and scored well in the other tests. These good structural results are
complemented with good performing safety equipment including dual front, side and side
curtain airbags, electronic stability control (ESC) anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic
brake distribution (EBD) and advanced seat belt reminders.
ANCAP is the first consumer crash-test organisation in the world to test this model.
This result continues the recent 5-star ratings for passenger cars, following the Ford Falcon
and the Holden Commodore last year, and is great news for Australian new car buyers, he
said.
It is pleasing to see manufacturers increasingly recognising the benefits of improving
crashworthiness and including the latest safety features and technology into many
Australian-made and imported cars. These results are obvious to consumers through the
independent ANCAP 4 and 5-star crash test ratings.
ANCAP is proud of its role in crash testing vehicles and highlighting safety comparisons
over the past 15 years.
We now look to further develop this safety performance emphasis through use of ANCAPs
Stars on Cars safety labels which provide the cars safety rating at the point of sale
potential customers should ask about these labels and use the comparative ANCAP star
ratings when making a decision to buy a new car.
ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, all Australian state
governments, the New Zealand government, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission,
NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation. For a full list of ANCAPs vehicle safety ratings,
