Error in Terry Mulder media release re. bikes on V/Line trains

V/Line advises that a media release issued by Opposition Public Transport spokesman
Terry Mulder on 19 May, titled `Kosky hits country train users with anti-bike rules', is
factually wrong.

Comments attributed to Mr Mulder indicate that V/Line and the Government are
"imposing a whole range of restrictions on country Victorians traveling with their bikes".

The Opposition media release wrongly states: "official conditions for carrying bikes on
V/Line trains included that bikes must have their pedals removed, handlebars turned and
backpacks or panniers removed, and that they should be boxed in cardboard".

These are not "official conditions", merely travel tips that commuters can choose to
ignore.

Journalists are advised that there has been no change to the rules governing bikes on
trains and country travelers may still take their bikes without the need to pack in boxes.

Unfortunately, Mr Mulder's comments confuse travel advice (under `Travel Tips' on
V/Line's website), with the very clear stated position of V/Line that bikes may be taken
on trains without the need for packing or modification.

In short, no rules have changed.
