The Media is invited to attend VACCs Safe Routes Scooter Rally 2009
When: Sunday November 8 2009
Time: 10am assembly, 10.30am depart.
Where (start): Luna Park, St Kilda
Where (finish): Argyle Square (Rally arrives Lygon Street approximately 11.15am)
Who: 400 scooter riders
What: The 4th annual VACC Safe Routes Scooter Rally. One of the most colourful events
on the Melbourne calendar with, among others, Vespas and Lambrettas, plus trademark
accessories eg multiple mirrors, lights and badges. Many riders will be dressed for the
occassion in fish-tail parkers, Fred Perry polos and stove-pipe pants.
Why: Scooters are fun and trendy but also an important mode of transport, especially for
commuters. They are cheap to purchase and run, they ease congestion, are easy to park
and good for the environment.
But scooter riders are vulnerable and need more on-road protection.
