Motor Show Joint Venture Agreement signed

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), organisers of the Sydney

Motor Show and VACC, organisers of the Melbourne Motor Show, today signed the

new Motor Show Joint Venture agreement.

At the opening of the 2009 Melbourne Motor Show, FCAI Chief Executive Andrew

McKellar, FCAI President and GM Holden Chairman and Managing Director, Mark

Reuss, and Perce Makin, Chair of the Organising Committee of Australian

Automotive Week, and VACC Executive Director, David Purchase, signed the

agreement.

The Joint Venture will see one Australian International Motor Show, alternating

between Sydney and Melbourne.

“As joint venture partners, we look forward to building the Australian International

Motor Show brand. I have no doubt that with the energy of Australia’s two truly

international cities, Sydney and Melbourne, behind this initiative, the Australian

International Motor Show will become one of the world’s great motor shows,” VACC

Executive Director, David Purchase said.

The 75th anniversary Melbourne Motor Show is the last ‘stand-alone’ event before the

Joint Venture commences in 2010.

More than thirty manufacturers are exhibiting with many unveiling new models.

Among those making their debuts are the Holden Cruze, Audi Q5, Skoda’s new

Octavia range, Ford’s new Focus and Ranger lines, and the all-new BMW Z4

Roadster.

Environmentally friendly, hybrid, alternative-fueled and eco vehicles are prominent

and stealing the limelight is the fully electric and ready for production, Mitsubishi

innovative Electric Vehicle (iMiEV).

Manufacturers have given the thumbs up to the start of the 2009 Melbourne Motor

Show.

“I am very impressed with what I have seen. All the manufacturers are making a bold

statement. I think we have a good Motor Show and I think we have a great motor

industry in Australia,” Ford Australia President and CEO, Marin Burela said.

“The industry is very upbeat and positive now. Yes, there are difficulties but I think

the sights have been set on coming out of it,” Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited,

President and Chief Executive Officer, Robert McEniry said.
