TRAFFIC ALERT

31 December 2009 


ROAD CLOSURES ON NEW YEARS EVE


Motorists are reminded of road closures and changed traffic conditions in Sydney on

New Years Eve and New Years Day.


There will be roads closed before, during and after the celebrations on the Sydney

Harbour Bridge and roads around the CBD, Darling Harbour, the Royal Botanic

Gardens, North Sydney, and other foreshore areas.


Road closures extend south of the Sydney CBD to Railway Square. The majority

of roads in the Sydney CBD will be closed by 7pm.


The Cahill Expressway between the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Domain Tunnel will

be closed in both directions from 11am. 


The High Street on-ramp to the Cahill Expressway and Lanes 7 and 8 southbound on

the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be closed from 1pm. 

 

The remaining lanes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be progressively closed from

11pm for the duration of the fireworks, reopening at 1am. 


The pedestrian walkway on the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be closed from 6pm and

will reopen at 1am from the north and at 2am from the south.


The Sydney Harbour Tunnel will remain open at all times. Motorists using the Tunnel

are advised to expect delays and allow extra travel time.


The Anzac Bridge and Western Distributor will be closed to citybound traffic from

8.30pm to 9.30pm, and again from 11.30pm to 1am. The pedestrian walkway on the

Western Distributor will be closed from 4pm to 1am.


The RTA is advising motorists to use public transport if planning to travel into the city

with extra trains, buses and taxis ranks available. Motorists are also reminded to

watch out for pedestrians.
