NEWELL HIGHWAY REDUCED SPEED LIMIT
SIGNS IN PLACE
An RTA spokesperson said signage advising the changed speed limit on the Newell
Highway has been put in place.
The maximum speed limit on the highway was reduced from 110km/h to 100km/h
yesterday, after a review of safety issues on the Newell.
RTA road crews worked hard yesterday to change more than 600 signs in one day.
The old 110 speed markings on the road surface have been removed and the new
100 markings are currently being painted.
The Newell Highway is 1060km long and stretches from the Victorian border to the
Queensland border, the spokesperson said.
The changed speed limit is part of a $30 million investment in safety improvements
on the Newell Highway in the next three years.
That investment complements the $250 million spent on the Newell Highway in the
past five years, with a further $54 million to be spent this financial year, the
spokesperson said.
