PEDESTRIAN CROSSING TO BOOST ROAD SAFETY
IN TAMWORTH
A $300,000 safety project has been completed on Marius Street between White
Street and Fitzroy Street, Tamworth.
A pedestrian-activated signal crossing has been installed as part of a Government
initiative to improve safety for pedestrians crossing the Oxley Highway.
An RTA spokesperson said the work is part of a State Government initiative to
upgrade marked pedestrian crossings on multi-lane State Government roads.
Marius Street is part of the Oxley Highway. It is used by heavy vehicles and is one of
the busiest streets in Tamworth.
The new crossing will ensure a safer, more controlled environment for pedestrians
crossing this four-lane road.
Importantly, the facilities will make crossing this busy road much easier for less
mobile and vision impaired members of the community, the spokesperson said.
Work was carried out by Tamworth Regional Council on behalf of the RTA.
