Public Transport to Stakes Day
A train, tram or bus is the best way to get to and from Stakes Day at Flemington Racecourse. Special trains and trams will run on Saturday 7 November for patrons heading to the track.
With lane closures on the Monash Freeway and CityLink and major works on the Westgate Freeway, delays are expected particularly for eastbound traffic after the event, which is all the more reason to leave the car at home and choose public transport.
"To avoid traffic headaches on the M1 and around the racecourse take the easy route. A train, tram or bus can drop you within walking distance of Flemington," Metlink CEO Bernie Carolan said.
"There will be large crowds, but if you allow extra time for your journey, plan ahead and buy a Metcard in advance it should be a hassle-free ride."

More preparation than ever has gone into getting the network ready for this year's carnival, so public transport is a great way to get out and enjoy the last big race day.
Patrons must also pre-purchase their Stakes Day admission ticket as they're not sold at Flemington.
