MEDIA RELEASE
16 DECEMBER 2009
REPAIR OF WATERFALL WAY LANDSLIPS
Road safety measures remain in place after heavy rain caused landslips along the
Waterfall Way on Dorrigo Mountain.
The RTA cleared debris and installed safety measures earlier this year before
reopening the road, but safety measures remain in place in the following locations
while repairs are carried out:
Gordonville Cutting - 7.3 km west of Bellingen
Newell Falls 21 km west of Bellingen
Sherrard Falls - 22 km west of Bellingen
An RTA spokesperson said there are large message signs and traffic signals in place
with one lane alternating traffic flow at Sherrard Falls and Gordonville Cutting.
Engineers are investigating ways to repair the slips. Environmental assessments are
also being carried out.
The RTA expects to start work to repair the slips in mid 2010, once planning and
design work has been completed. Traffic control measures will remain in place until
the repairs are completed.
Be road work aware, slow down and take care
road work speed
limits are
enforceable.
Motorists are asked to comply with all temporary signposting and traffic control
measures and to drive with care through these areas.
The RTA thanks motorists for their patience during these necessary works.
The RTA is working with Bellingen Shire Council and local organisations to keep the
community and tourists informed.
