MEDIA RELEASE
22 DECEMBER 2009
ROAD SAFETY WORK COMPLETED IN
LENNOX HEAD AND BALLINA
Road safety work has finished at the intersections of Coast Road and Ross Lane,
Lennox Head, and Coast Road and Headlands Drive, Skennars Head.
An RTA spokesperson
said work involved improving the left turn lane from Coast
Road into Ross Lane, Lennox Head, as well as the left turn from Coast Road into
Headlands Drive.
The work will improve separation of traffic heading north along Coast Road and
turning left into Ross Lane or left into Headlands Drive, as well as those travelling
through the intersections.
This will also assist traffic turning right from Ross Lane into Coast Road giving them
better line of sight of traffic turning left as well as through traffic on the Coast Road. It
will also improve road and pedestrian safety.
In the past five years there have been 10 recorded crashes at the intersection of
Coast Road and Ross Lane, and eight crashes at the intersection of Coast Road and
Headlands Drive.
The spokesperson
said the work will improve traffic flow through the intersections
and reduce the potential for intersection crashes.
The combined cost of the two projects is $468,000, work was done by Ballina Council
on behalf of the RTA and was fully funded by the Federal
Government under the
Nation Building Black Spot Program.
