             7 JANUARY 2010



SYDNEY FESTIVAL FIRST NIGHT

BEGINS



The Sydney CBD will be alive this Saturday 9 January, when the Festival of

Sydney First Night begins. 


The RTA is advising motorists that some roads will be closed in the Sydney

CBD and special event clearways will be in place.

 

Motorists are advised that the following

roads in the Sydney CBD will be

closed from 11.30pm Friday 8 January to 6am Sunday 10 January.


This includes parts of Angel Place,

Boomerang Place/Yurong Parkway,

College

Street, King Street, Macquarie Street, Phillip Street,

Pitt Street,

Prince Albert Road and Saint James Road.


Some sections of Castlereagh Street and Hosking/Penfold Place will also be

closed from 3pm Saturday 9 January to 6am Sunday 10 January. 



Roads in the CBD will also be closed from 5pm Saturday 9 January to 1am

Sunday 10 January

including parts of Art Gallery Road, Cathedral Street,

Elizabeth Street, King Street, Lees Crescent, Macquarie

and Phillip streets

and Saint Mary’s Road. 


Motorists should

check signs before parking as vehicles parked in special

event clearways will be towed and fines will apply.


The RTA is advising motorists

to visit the RTA website for information on

clearways and closures and plan their trip accordingly.


The RTA is advising motorists to use public transport if planning to travel

into the city with extra trains, buses and taxis ranks available. Motorists are

also reminded to watch out for pedestrians.
