TOYS take over city trains and trams
A troupe of 100 people dressed in matching blue frocks and black wigs and boots will roam the CBD tomorrow afternoon making appearances at major landmarks and public transport locations in a collaborative dance performance known as Take Off Your Skin (TOYS).
Metlink is supporting the project through a partnership with the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
The performers (also known as 'clones') will scatter off into smaller groups starting from the Arts Centre at 2pm and return for an explosive finale performance at 4pm. They'll be hopping on trains and trams to turn heads with their quirky costume and movement.
"By teaming up with the Fringe Festival we're turning the public transport network into the stage for part of this unique performance," Metlink CEO Bernie Carolan said.
"One of the best things about catching public transport is people watching and all the interesting things you see along the way. I think anyone who shares a carriage with the TOYS 'clones' or passes them at a station or stop will certainly have a story to tell their friends and family.
"I imagine there will be a few double-takes going on. It's not something commuters see everyday. Melburnians love a festival and have a great sense of humour, so I think they'll appreciate the unexpectedness of TOYS.
"Sponsoring the Melbourne Fringe Festival gives Metlink the opportunity to encourage people to catch public transport to the many performances at over 100 venues around town until October 11. Although I think this might be the only performance that comes to you!"
