WORK STARTS ON NEW TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT TORONTO
ROAD AND ENTERPRISE WAY, WOODRISING
The RTA has started work on the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of
Toronto Road and Enterprise Way, Woodrising, to improve safety for motorists.
An RTA spokesperson said the Federal Government had provided $1 million in
Nation Building funding for this project, and the State Government is providing
$400,000, to reduce crashes at the intersection.
There have been eight crashes at the intersection between July 2003 and June
2008, including four injury crashes. The majority of crashes involved a vehicle turning
right from Enterprise Way colliding with a vehicle travelling south along Toronto
Road, the spokesperson said.
The existing intersection known as a seagull or staged intersection - will be
upgraded and traffic lights will be installed to control all turning movements between
Toronto Road and Enterprise Way.
The lights will also control the flow of traffic for southbound vehicles on Toronto
Road.
Vehicles travelling north on Toronto Road will have a continuous through-lane and
will not be affected by the traffic lights.
The project will include improved linemarking and the installation of concrete
medians on Toronto Road and Enterprise Way to separate traffic more effectively.
All the turning movements that are currently available for vehicles turning at Toronto
Road and Enterprise Way will be retained when the upgrade is complete, the
spokesperson said.
The new traffic lights and road work is scheduled to be completed by December
2009, weather permitting.
