TRAFFIC ALERT
3 December 2009
WORK ON ALSTONVILLE BYPASS
Motorists are advised that rock blasting work on the new Alstonville
Bypass is scheduled to start on 9 December 2009.
The rock blasting will take place in a 620 metre area between Maguires
Creek and Kays Lane, and will continue for about three months, weather
permitting. Up to two blasts will take place per day, between 9am and
5pm.
Meanwhile, from 14 December traffic will be diverted onto a temporary
side track north of the existing highway to
allow work to be done on the
eastern end of the project.
This diversion will remain in place until the end of February 2010 when
traffic will then move to the south of the existing highway onto a section of
the new road.
Motorists are advised to be road work aware, slow down and take care
road work speed limits are enforceable.
This work is necessary to continue construction of the new Alstonville
Bypass. The RTA apologises for any inconvenience caused during this
important work.
A siren will be sounded before each blast. Over the Christmas period from
23 December to 4 January there will be no blasting.
For further information motorists can contact the Alstonville Bypass
community information line on 1800 074 588.
