TRAFFIC ALERT

15 DECEMBER

SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR CHRISTMAS

SHOPPERS AT FLEMINGTON MARKETS

An RTA spokesperson said special traffic arrangements have been put in place to

help shoppers heading to the Flemington Markets at Homebush this Saturday (19

December).

“Very heavy traffic is expected on Saturday as people stock up on Christmas

presents and food for Christmas.

“The RTA is advising that, where possible, shoppers use pubic transport to get to and

from the markets.

“For people who are planning to drive to the markets, there will be a number of road

closures in place to help keep traffic flowing,” the spokesperson said.

“The usual entrance to the markets for traffic northbound on Centenary Drive, which

is the loop road under Centenary Drive between Marlborough Road and Parramatta

Road, will be closed in both directions from 6.30am until 2pm when the markets

close.

“Flemington Road between Parramatta Road and the markets may be closed in both

directions, at police discretion, depending on traffic conditions.

“Austin Avenue between Marlborough Road and the markets will remain open, at

police discretion, depending on traffic volumes.

“The right turn bay from Parramatta Road to Flemington Road will be closed to

encourage drivers to use the Potts Street entrance.

“To get into the markets, motorists coming from the west on the M4 should take the

Silverwater Road exit then use Parramatta Road to enter the markets via

Hammersmith Road and Austin Avenue.

“The RTA will have special notices about the changes on electronic signs around the

markets so motorists will receive plenty of warning about road changes.

“Customers driving to the markets from the east on Parramatta Road should use the

Potts Street entrance.

“Customers travelling to the markets from the north on Homebush Bay Drive should

use the Kerrish Avenue entrance.

“Those travelling from the south on Centenary Drive should turn right into Parramatta

Road and then use the Potts Street entrance.

“Normal exiting arrangements will remain and pedestrian access will be unaffected.”

The spokesperson said people who are not going to the markets on Saturday should

avoid Homebush Bay Drive, Centenary Drive, Parramatta Road and Marlborough

Road.

For information about traffic conditions, motorists should

contact the RTA’s Traffic

Information Line on 132 701.
