Sun Princess Launches South Australia’s

Cruise Season with Visit Tomorrow

Princess Cruises’ Australian-based superliner, Sun Princess, will visit Adelaide tomorrow (Nov 7) to

mark the official start of the summer cruise season for South Australia.

The superliner’s visit tomorrow marks the first of nine calls to Adelaide this season by seven ships

sailing for Carnival Australia cruise lines, including Princess Cruises, P&O Cruises, Cunard Line and

P&O Cruises World Voyages.

Between them, the visiting ships are expected to inject more than $4 million into the South Australian

economy through passenger and crew spending, port fees and ship stores.

Carrying 1950 passengers, Sun Princess will arrive and berth at Port Adelaide at around 6.30am as

part of her 28-night Australian circumnavigation voyage.  She will sail for Melbourne at 6pm.

One of the highlights of Adelaide’s cruise season will be the arrival of the largest ship ever to visit the

city, Cunard Line’s 151,400-tonne Queen Mary 2, on March 11, 2010.

She will be preceded by her elegant little sister, the 90,000-tonne Queen Victoria, which will make

her maiden visit to South Australia on February 24, 2010.

Princess Cruises’ megaliner Diamond Princess will also return to visit Adelaide on February 27,

2010, while Sun Princess’ sister ship, Dawn Princess, will call at the city twice during the season, on

November 20 and March 27.

Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry said the season revealed the perennial popularity of South

Australia with cruise passengers.

“South Australia’s renowned food and wine regions are always a hit with our domestic and

international cruise passengers,” Ms Sherry said.

“Meanwhile, spectators on land will be treated to two exciting firsts this season, with maiden visits by

of Cunard Line’s legendary ocean liners, the magnificent Queen Mary 2 and her sister ship, Queen

Victoria.”

At 70,000 tonnes, Sun Princess features 975 cabins – including more than 400 with private balconies

as well as a grand four-storey atrium with a stained-glass dome and glass elevators, eight

restaurants and cafes, seven lounges, four pools and five whirlpool spas.
